WHO is lucky they’re the only game in town

No I don’t mean the World Health Organization (though there’s probably a post with them too). For the talk radio fan (not relating to sports) in central Iowa, WHO 1040 am is your only option. The only blessing is that with 1540 KXEL out of Waterloo you can at least catch Rush live and Mark Levine’s show. Its mainly the lack of call in competition that’s killing central Iowa. WHO has a morning guy and an afternoon guy. They fawn all over Iowa’s governor, senators and Steve King. They’re apologists for the ethanol industry and bullshit subsidies like to new fertilizer plants and whatnot.

Another example was last years animal cruelty law, Farm Bureau didn’t want it so WHO didn’t talk about it. In the current pandemic there are various shortages at the grocery store. Do they talk to anyone at Hy-Vee to find out what the hell is going on? Do they get the CEO of Charmin on the line? The morning show is 2 hours, the afternoon is 3. That’s 5 wasted hours. Their predecessors knew what they were doing when they lobbied the FCC to make it impossible for startups to get going in the radio industry. Now all we have are fat and lazy monopolists screaming “iHeart radio app!” all day long, not serving the listening audience.
